SEHWC POTLUCK HOLIDAY PARTY
The San Elijo Women’s Club held its annual holiday party on Tuesday evening, December 8, 2015. Festive holiday decorations put everyone in the holiday spirit as guests enjoyed a delicious potluck dinner followed by a brief meeting which highlighted the upcoming year. Several new members were welcomed into the club during the evening.
Carol Clause of Women’s Empowerment (WE), one of SEHWC’s charities, was presented with a check for $1,000, an amount that increased to $2,000 due to a generous matching opportunity.
The mission of WE is to give women the tools they need to work their way out of poverty. On January 30, 2016, those interested may participate in a Women’s Empowerment STAR Center/IRC Tour to meet the staff of IRC (International Rescue Committee), visit the farmer’s market, and enjoy lunch in the community garden. The STAR Center provides technical support, business training, and access to micro loans to refugee women in San Diego. At a wine and cheese event hosted by Making a Difference Giving Circle on February 7, author Zohrehe Ghahremani, will discuss her latest book Moon Daughter. For additional information on either of these events, please contact email@example.com, attention Carol Clause.
SAN ELIJO HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE
President Trish Goldman announced that the Holiday Boutique bake sale was a huge success! $650 was raised from the sale of delicious baked items donated by club members. Proceeds more than doubled the amount of previous years. In addition, $565 was presented to SEHWC by the City of San Marcos for the club’s part in coordination efforts for the event. The $1215 total will go toward supporting SEHWC’s charities.
On December 13, 2015, SEHWC members enjoyed a continental breakfast and crowd-free shopping at Chico’s at The Forum. Those attending were treated to “how to” demonstrations, raffles, and ample shopping time. A percentage of sales of items purchased by members at this event was donated to SEHWC for their scholarship fund.
STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART
SEHWC members donned their Santa’s elves hats December 16-18 to pack toys for Straight from the Heart, SEHWC’s major charity. The toys will be distributed to the families of foster children to make the holiday shine a bit brighter for some very special young people. At the SEHWC holiday party, several hundred dollars worth of gift cards were donated to SFTH by members for their pre-teen holiday gift program.
2016 has just begun and resolutions abound. Why not make this the year you join a special group of women whose mission is to support other women and who have a great time doing so. If you are already a member but have not been active recently, please reconnect. There are lots of exciting opportunities planned for the year ahead.
SEHWC meets on the second Tuesday of the month. The January 12 meeting, beginning at 7PM, is the club’s annual white elephant live auction, led by one of our enthusiastic members. This is a great opportunity to “re-gift,” with all proceeds from the auction benefiting SEHWC’s scholarship fund.
If you would like to attend an upcoming meeting, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the invitation list.
