One of the characteristics that makes San Marcos such a great City is how you can go all the way from grade school through your higher education and then come back into the community to build your career. We met someone who has done just that and thought it would be fun to share her story.
Megan Reynolds grew up in San Marcos. Her parents both attended San Marcos High School in the 80s and bought their home in San Marcos in 1993. Megan went to Paloma Elementary, then San Marcos Middle School and Mission Hills High School.
After graduating in 2009, she attended CSUSM and was one of the first students to benefit from the PACE Scholars program. In May of 2013, she graduated from CSUSM with a BS in Management/Entrepreneurship.
Megan was one of the first to benefit from the entrepreneurship major at CSUSM. When she started, there were only about 100 students in that major and she loved all of the opportunities she had to thrive in the business school where it felt like a small community of its own. Megan gained a wide variety of business skills – including the opportunity to develop presentations and pitches that have helped her be more outgoing and persistent in her own business.
Throughout her college years, Megan developed her own jewelry business – a passion that started when she was only 10 years old. In high school, she began selling her hand-made jewelry to teachers and friends. So, it seemed natural that as she began her business courses at CSUSM in 2009, she officially launched Flawed Perfection Jewelry where she specializes in customizable designs made with SWAROVSKI® ELEMENTS.
Megan worked on her business part-time during college and after graduating, she is now full speed ahead building a viable business doing something she loves. In addition, she has built into her business a way to give back to a community she loves. Every month, Megan features a different charity and donates a portion of her business proceeds to that organization. It’s an important piece of her business to know she is giving back. Last month, she was honored to use her business as a means for raising funds for the Cocos Fire victims.
