A Week Without Water

December 30, 2014 By Karen Friend Smith Leave a Comment

In December, Vallecitos Water District hosted a kick-off reception for its first video contest called “A Week Without Water”.

In partnership with the Palomar College GEAR UP Partnership Program and Menchie’s of San Marcos, the video contest was available to all middle and high school students within the District’s service area.

Entrants were challenged to create a video, no longer than two minutes, about what life would be like without running tap water for a week. The purpose of the video is to help the community understand the true value of our most precious resource, and that we can’t afford to waste a drop.

Vallecitos has been working as a GEAR UP business partner since 2011 to promote STEM and water/wastewater careers to the next generation of college bound students. From this launch, GEAR UP is creating an innovative new program called Jr. Water Management Workshops to explore careers in water conservation and management, which should lead students to the new Certificate in Water Leadership and Management at CSUSM.
