American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) was founded in September, 1964 in Torrance, California. That first season consisted of only 9 teams. Fifty years later, that number has grown to over 40,000 teams. AYSO continues to grow with new and diverse programs that cover a wide spectrum of players and families.
Along the way, AYSO has produced quite a few players that have become household names. Landon Donovan, Alex Morgan, Julie Foudy, Carlos Bocanegra, Eric Wynalda, Shannon Boxx are all AYSO Alumni.
But those are just a few of the players that we all of heard about. There are hundreds of thousands of other players who are also “household names”; just ask the parents of every child in AYSO!
ASYO’s vision is to “Provide world class youth soccer programs that enrich children’s lives.”
San Marcos Welcomes AYSO
This vision was brought to San Marcos in 1978 when Gerhard Sagasser and a few other parents formed AYSO Region 127 with 292 players and 22 teams. San Marcos AYSO is the original youth soccer organization in the city of San Marcos, with most current organizations in the city having ties back to San Marcos AYSO.
For 36 years, AYSO has been an integral part and mainstay of youth sports in the City of San Marcos. Countless volunteer hours and financial donations have been made to enhance parks and fields in the city and the San Marcos Unified school District. Each year thousands of San Marcos families choose to play AYSO soccer; this past season over 2300 players were registered with AYSO in the city. This is in large part due to the quality and consistency of the programs that are offered.
The AYSO brand of soccer is provided by two Regions in the city, Region 127 (San Marcos) and Region 1505 (San Elijo), representing the two longest standing soccer organizations. San Elijo AYSO will be starting their 10th season this fall while San Marcos AYSO has been in existence for 36 years. With two AYSO Region’s in the city, each centralized in a different area, residents are afforded the convenience of choosing the Region that is more convenient to them.
Soccer, Soccer and more Soccer!!
AYSO offers a wide range of soccer programs to the residents of the city in the Fall and Spring. The Fall season is the primary season offering our standard Core program that includes the always popular U5 Jamboree. U5 Jamboree is our program for young soccer stars of every family. It focuses on teaching basic soccer skills through the use of fun interactive games and ends with a short 3v3 game for the players. The Core program also offers Playoffs and All-Star programs for the older players. At the other end of the spectrum , AYSO Matrix is available for those players and families seeking a more competitive environment.
During the Spring, AYSO offers fast-paced high scoring action in the form of Spring Arena and Spring Turbo seasons. The Arena season utilizes the city of San Marcos soccer arenas. Spring Turbo soccer is a 3 v3 formatted game on smaller fields for all ages. The formats of the Spring Programs encourage the development of passing skills, finding open space and individual foot skills.
AYSO Matrix- AIM HIGH!
AYSO Matrix is one of the largest soccer clubs in the Presidio Soccer league with almost 60 teams; 21 of those teams are right here in San Marcos. AYSO Matrix San Elijo and AYSO Matrix San Marcos hold true to the Philosophy of “Player Development”; they will have 7 Matrix teams participating in the prestigious San Diego Development Academy (SDDA) this fall season. The local Matrix teams are setting the standard for what is expected of a premier soccer program.
