You gotta love when you see people step up and take action for causes they care about. It’s even more cool when it’s a kid. And, we wanted to let you know about this event so you can make it an even bigger success.
Two years ago, Samantha Kascoutas (who was only 10 at the time) decided to host her own carnival to raise money for cancer research. After several people in her family faced cancer, she wanted to do something about it. She called it Carnival for Cancer and she held it right here in San Elijo Hills at Questhaven Park. Samantha made all of her own carnival games and solicited donations and support from local businesses. Then she set them up and invited everyone she knew to come out and enjoy the fun.
That first year out of the gate, she raised $1200. Last year, she took all that she learned the first year and put on an even more successful event – raising $4600!
Samantha is now in 7th grade at San Elijo Middle School. Her older sisters are also helping her with this year’s event. Courtney is a Freshman and Melanie is a Junior at San Marcos High School. Together, they are setting the bar even higher. Their goal is to raise $5500.
Carnival for Cancer will be held on Saturday, June 25 from 10:30AM to 2:30PM at Questhaven Park in San Elijo Hills. There will be 10+ homemade carnival games, a photo booth, jumpy, lunch, bake sale and a raffle. All of the proceeds will go to Relay For Life with The American Cancer Society for Cancer research.
It’s a great cause and we hope you will come out and support these amazing SEH girls and their efforts to have an impact. It’s so inspiring to watch how this event has grown over the years and we can’t wait to see what they accomplish this year! Mark your calendars – Saturday, June 25 and plan to stop by, have some fun, donate to a great cause and make Carnival for Cancer an even bigger event.
If you’d like to donate something for the event, please email the girls at kascoutas4cures@gmail.com.
You can also follow them on Facebook and Instagram or donate directly to their Relay for Life team at www.relayforlife.org.
