Volunteers Needed at The Flower Fields

The Flower Fields® in Carlsbad is currently seeking volunteers for the spring 2018 season. Duties include conducting walking children’s tours. Training will be provided in January for tours being given from March 15th – April 30th, 2018. Tours are normally scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30AM and 12:30PM. Dates are flexible.

Volunteers must like flowers and must enjoy working with children and being outdoors. Experience is not required.

6th Annual Festival of Trees

Kick off the holiday season with The Foundation for Senior Wellbeing’s signature fundraising event:
The 6th Annual Festival of Trees

Friday, November 25th, 6pm-10pm
VIP Party – $75/person or $500/Table of 8

Saturday, November 26th, 10am-1pm
Holiday Brunch – $15/person

Sunday, November 27th, 10am-4pm
Family Day – Santa Claus, Photos, Entertainment
Family Day is FREE to the Public

This year’s event kicks off with the VIP Party on Friday, November 25th, featuring dinner, live entertainment, and more. Attendees will weave their way through the display of holiday trees and decorations during this exclusive event.

The festivities continue on Saturday, November 26th with the Holiday Brunch.

The public is invited to attend this 3-day event that ends with Family Day on Sunday, November 27th from 10AM – 4PM which is FREE to the public. Family day includes fun activities also include Santa Claus, photos, and entertainment. Admission to Family Day is free to the public but you’re encouraged to bring your wallets and be ready to shop for holiday trees, decorations, and boutique items.

Hawaiian Week!

Come enjoy Hawaiian themed food and entertainment during our lunch program. The week will feature music, contests, and other festivities. $5 for 59 ­under and $4 for 60+

Ballroom Dances

Over 90 Birthday Celebration

Food, Fun & Fandango

Fandango

Food, Fun & Fandango will take place on Friday, July 17 from 5:30PM to 8PM.

The purpose of this event is to raise funds to support the nutrition program at the San Marcos Senior Center. Bring your family and friends for a kid­-friendly event with games and live dance music. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Tickets can be purchased at the senior center for $5 per adult. Children are free. “Doors open” at 5PM with performances by the Senior Center’s ukulele and hula classes and featured entertainment by Fandango!

City of San Marcos Senior Center Events – June 2015

Did you know we have a fantastic Senior Center here in San Marcos? It’s located near the San Marcos Post Office at 111 Richmar Ave. and there’s always something interesting going on. Here are just a few things going on this month. Go check it out ‐ you will be glad you did!

Lunch Program

The San Marcos Senior Center serves a nutritious lunch Monday thru Friday at 11:30AM. Reservations must be made in advance by calling (760) 744‐5535 ext. 3606. Lunch choices include a hot or cold entrée with dessert. They also offer a soup & salad bar option every Tuesday and Thursday. A $4 suggested donation for seniors 60 & over and $5 for under 60. Lunch transportation is provided for San Marcos seniors that no longer drive. $1 suggested donation is requested in addition to the lunch donation. The San Marcos Senior Center accepts EBT card donations.

Special Events

Beginning Genealogy Class. Tuesdays June 2‐23 from 9‐10AM. $1 each week. Come learn how
to find your family history and trace your lineages.
Viejas Resort & Casino Trip that includes bingo! Tuesday June 9. 9AM – 5:45PM. Cost $10. For

Lunch Lecture ‐ Dental Coverage. South Bay Health Insurance Services will present a lunch lecture on Tuesday, June 16 at 11AM discussing dental coverage. Followed by lunch served at 11:30AM. Must RSVP in advance for lunch by calling (760) 744‐5535 ext. 3606.

Ballroom Dance on Thursday, June 18 from 2‐4PM with live entertainment by the Billy Harper Band. $5 per person includes refreshments.

Celebrate Father’s Day. Friday, June 19. Entertainment will start at 10:45AM with the wonderful Peter Seltser. Lunch will be served at 11:30AM with an entree choice of roast beef with gravy, baked potato, honey glazed carrots and roll, or a vegetarian greek salad. Lunch includes coffee, tea, milk and dessert. Brain Fit Boot Camp. Monday, June 22 from 1‐3PM. Cost $15. Find facts on how to improve your brain health, learn memory strategies & access cutting edge information for your brain. Please call (760) 796‐6020 for more information.

Salt, Sugar, and Fat…Oh My! On Wednesday, July 1 from 1‐2:15PM. Cost $1. Meet the foods that can sabotage a healthy diet and weight loss efforts. Learn to distinguish culprit foods that can sneak into your diet. Discover effective ways to reduce their intake without sacrificing flavor. All participants will receive a free health guide with recipes and tips for healthy living.

New Certificate Program for Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language

If you have ever wanted the opportunity to travel/work overseas teaching English as a Second Language, you won’t want to miss the new certificate program offered right here in San Marcos at CSUSM this summer.

Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language (TESL/TEFL) Certificate Program is a 120hour certificate program that prepares individuals from a variety of backgrounds to effectively teach English, both at home and abroad.

The program provides professional development and guidance in finding employment in the field with a strong emphasis on hands on training and practice with English language learners in a university setting. Sessions are taught by master teachers with extensive experience in TESL/TEFL, teacher training, and curriculum development.

The 6-week Certificate Program runs Monday through Friday on the CSUSM campus for a total of 20 hours per week from June 29 to August 7.
