Boys & Girls Club Celebrates 35th Anniversary in San Marcos

2014 marks the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos’ 35th year in the San Marcos community. Since 1979, the Club has impacted the lives of thousands of youth by providing a safe and affordable programs and services for the youth of our community.

Last month, over 200 guests gathered together at the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos to celebrate and reflect on the past, present and great future. From a small trailer and a few dozen youth members, to now, a 16,000 sq. ft. facility, five school site locations, one low income apartment complex and over 2,800 youth members, the Club continues to give young people hope and opportunity, preparing them for a great future. The generosity of Club supporters, annual and event sponsors and local donations make a powerful impact on the Club’s youth members, their families and the community. Through the years, the Club has stayed true to its mission to “inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as responsible, caring citizens”.

Recently, the Club announced a change in leadership. After 12 years as the Chief Executive Officer, Shelly Anguiano Figueroa has taken an opportunity to work with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. A search committee has selected Tish Murry as the Club’s new Chief Executive Officer.

Tish has been with the Boys & Girls Club movement since 1988 and began her Boys & Girls Club career at the Woodland Park Branch in San Marcos. Tish has a deep commitment to Boys & Girls Clubs and embraces the simple premise that all youth, however difficult their circumstances, can become capable, contributing adults.

Tish is a member of The Professional Association and has served both Big Orange and Sierra Madre Chapters in various capacities. She has served on many conference planning committees that promote the professional development of staff members, as well as Keystone Teen Leadership conferences. She is a graduate of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Executive Leadership and Advanced Leadership programs. Tish served on the Pacific Region Teen Advisory Council for six years, and is a training consultant for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Her expertise and bold vision for the future will help the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos continue to grow their impact on the youth in the community.

The Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos provides quality programs and services for youth members, ages 6-18 years old, and assures success is within reach of every young person who walks through the Club doors. Programs and activities are centered around Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles – giving each youth member the start of a GREAT FUTURE. The actual cost to the Club to serve one youth member per year is approximately $604. Youth members and their families only pay $40 per year!
