A Grand Opening Ceremony is set for Wednesday, June 11 at 5PM to celebrate Connors Park located at 320 West San Marcos Blvd. It’s open to the public – so, come out and join city officials to welcome this newest park to San Marcos.
Connors Park is next to San Marcos Elementary School. It’s just under 5 acres and features a lighted multi-use synthetic turf field, lighted tennis/basketball courts, shaded picnic areas, tot lots, restrooms and a concession stand.
Connors Park was named after Mary Young Connors – a woman who dedicated 50 years of service to the San Marcos Community. She was honored as “Woman of the Year” by the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce in 1983 for all she contributed to our community. Mrs. Connors taught school in the old 1910 school house, she was a teacher and principal at San Marcos Elementary School for 31 years. She was also integral in securing the grant funds that facilitated the construction of Mary Connors Hall – a building that has served San Marcos in many ways – cafeteria for San Marcos Elementary School, dance hall, recreation room, auditorium…and today is home to the San Marcos Historical Society in Heritage Park.
The opening of Connors Park is an opportunity to not only recognize this new community asset, but to remember our history and honor someone whose dedication to teaching and service to the community has helped make San Marcos what it is today.
Please RSVP by June 2 to Sarah Divan at (760) 744-9000 x3174 or sdivan@san-marcos.net.
