Double Peak Challenge – September 30, 2017

September 1, 2017 By Karen Friend Smith

Get your tickets now for the San Marcos Double Peak Challenge which takes place on Saturday, September 30.

Whether you tackle the 10K Run, 5K Fun Run or Trail Trot for Kids – this is a fantastic way to celebrate unparalleled beauty from atop North County’s highest point – while doing something good for yourself and our greater community.

Race proceeds will benefit two important non-profit organizations: Friends of San Marcos Parks & Recreation and The San Marcos Promise. The Friends of San Marcos Park & Recreation invests in events, programs, parks and facilities to enhance the quality of life in the City of San Marcos. The San Marcos Promise provides students in the San Marcos Unified School District scholarships and career guidance to inspire academic achievement and post-secondary educational opportunities.

Not up for the full 10K? No worries! Double Peak Challenge also offers an awesome 5K course as well as a 200 Meter “Trail” Trot for kids.

10K Challenge

This out-and-back course is steep, but runners are rewarded with panoramic views. There will be ample aid stations on the course and spectators cheering along the way. This is a chip-timed race with awards for overall male and female finishers and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each age group category. All runners will receive a race medal. Start time: 7:30AM.

5K Fun Run

Come ready for some serious hills! This run/walk is un-timed and non-competitive. All participants will receive a race medal. The course alternates between asphalt paths and dirt paths/trails and some relatively steep inclines and declines. Start time: 8AM.

Trail Trot for Kids

Little ones under 10 are invited to join in this super-cute, non-competitive run which promises to put smiles on everyone. The Trail Trot will occur adjacent to the expo area near start/finish line in San Elijo Hills Neighborhood Park.  Start time: 9:30AM.

Race Day Check-In begins at 6:30AM. A runner drop-off area and handicap parking will be available in the parking lot adjacent to San Elijo Road. Event parking is available at San Elijo Middle School.

The Event Expo & Beer Garden will be located in the lower baseball diamond. Awards will be announced after all events are concluded. 10K Challenge participants over 21 years of age (must show valid picture ID) will receive a complimentary beer in the Beer Garden. Additional beverages can be purchased and all proceeds will benefit the same organizations as the event proceeds.

You can check out all of the courses and register to join the fun at: www.doublepeakchallenge.com.
