In July, the San Marcos Arts Council kicks-off the First Annual Chickens on Parade – an activity that will run all summer long. It’s the kind of project you can get out and enjoy by yourself or with your kids, grandchildren or even with your out of town guests.
Learn a little about San Marcos, get silly, have some fun, support local businesses, explore the arts and win some great prizes. There is something for everyone with the Chicken Parade, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to have some fun with this activity right here in our backyard.
Here’s how it works…
The San Marcos Arts Council Chickens on Parade is a collaborative effort that brings together local businesses, artists and the community. The Parade will officially run from July 4 to September 30. During that time, businesses involved will be displaying artist-adorned chicken sculptures as a city-wide scavenger hunt and Photo Contest. Residents are welcomed to join the scavenger hunt and photo contest for free and are eligible to win thousands of dollars worth of prizes.
The San Marcos Arts Council has been working hard the last few months to pull together the details of this comprehensive program. They supplied 28 porcelain chickens and then worked with the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce to get these chickens sponsored by local area businesses. After the sponsors were identified, the Arts Council matched each chicken up with a local artist. The artists had a few weeks to adore their chicken and prepare it for the parade.
The chickens are ready. They are proudly on display and now it’s up to you to get out there and enjoy the fun! There will be both a Scavenger Hunt and Photo Contest going on this summer. Both are completely FREE and you could win some awesome prizes!

It all begins at www.SanMarcosArtsCouncil.com where you can download the Scavenger Hunt Map & Contest Rules.
