To assist local businesses navigate new storm water regulations Alta Environmental, a California-based consulting firm providing environmental and engineering services, is participating in an Industrial General Permit Regulatory Compliance Seminar.
Additional industry presenters at the workshop include representatives from Brown and Caldwell, The Land Stewards, Vali Cooper and Waves Environmental. The seminar, which typically costs $400 to attend, is being offered free of charge to local businesses by the City of San Marcos.
The event will take place at the City of San Marcos Community Services Main Hall on April 22, 2015 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The recently updated National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit for storm water associated with industrial activity includes significant changes, and now requires compliance from previously exempt light industrial facilities. The NPDES Permit, which goes into effect July 1, 2015, requires certain industrial businesses to implement specific management measures and develop a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan and a monitoring plan.
“This free seminar will provide important updated information to businesses already covered by the existing Industrial General Permit, but will also inform businesses that are newly affected by the revised regulation” said David Renfrew, director of water resources at Alta Environmental.
“This workshop will provide local business owners, facility managers, and environmental
managers of industries with the information necessary to determine whether or not the permit applies and, if applicable, what steps they should take to ensure compliance with the new regulations.”
The seminar for businesses in San Marcos will describe the difference between the old and new permits, requirements for complying, ways to reduce your storm water compliance liability, and other related information pertinent to industrial businesses.
