GEAR UP is a prestigious and proven United States Department of Education grant that puts federal tax dollars, in collaboration with business partners, back into our local educational and economic system.
GEAR UP stands for: Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs.
The program serves 6,581 middle school students who progressed from 7th/8th grade, to high school, and through the first to second year of college (2011-2020). The program provides intervention and support for students to be better prepared for college and the abilities to obtain a college degree, with plans for a career in local industries.
GEAR UP utilizes innovative strategies for achieving educational objectives for students in San Marcos and Escondido. Unique to GEAR UP is that it requires partnerships with local businesses and demands that they find ways to better connect commerce and future industries with middle school and high school students, teachers, and parents, especially to promote the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM).
Funding is gained by matching your business in-kind product, time, and or services. When businesses donate, GEAR UP receives double the in-kind ($) value. Once your business becomes a Partner, your logo link will be added to our Partnership page and highlighted in the GEAR UP eNewsletter. The GEAR UP Grant requires 100% accountability. Cash donations are tax deductible and they are a Non-Profit 501(c)3.
