San Diego Girls Rugby (www.sandiegogirlsrugby.com) will be offering a non contact Girls Rugby ages 8-14 starting Nov 1, 2016. This new program is available in partnership and as a feeder program to Coastal Dragons Rugby a non profit organization whose mission is “Teach Student Athletes Learn to Love Rugby”.
Head Coach, Hannah Lockwood, has dedicated herself to building Girls Rugby to promote strong, confident girls and ladies. She works for the Institute of Rugby where girls and boys can better their rugby skills in classroom and on the field. She has also spearheaded the start of the first Girls Coastal Dragon Rugby Team, and recently had a successful first Girls Rugby Utah Tour travelling as the Coastal Dragons.
Joellen Lindholtz who lives here in San Elijo Hills started volunteering for rugby when her nephews started playing. What started as a willingness to help, turned into a true love for rugby. She went on to get her rugby certification and is now assists Hanna Lockwood who is head coach. “Her knowledge has not only served young ladies and boys, but has developed coaches to be better leaders and teachers. I have watched Hanna over the years take young girls who have never played or who were shy and develop them into strong, confident students, rugby players, and better overall people.
