Markstein Beverage Co. and Folds of Honor Foundation Present $5,000 Scholarship to Spouse of Fallen Marine
Markstein Beverage Co., located here in San Marcos, has partnered with Folds of Honor Foundation to provide a $5,000 scholarship to Tomomi Hug, wife of a fallen United States Marine Corps Corporal Justin L. Huff.
Tomami’s husband, was killed January 2, 2006 while attending intelligence school in Virginia. Tomomi was three months pregnant at the time. She now attends MiraCosta College in Oceanside where she is majoring in Nursing.
As a widow and single mom, Tomomi is among the 87% of more than 1 million dependents of military service men and women who do not qualify for educational assistance from the US Department of Veterans Affairs and other government programs. This scholarship makes a big difference in for her as she pursues her path to becoming an R.N.
“Just knowing that there are companies and people out there that care about the families of fallen soldiers, it means a lot not only to me, but to my son (now 8 years old). He is already starting to talk about when he goes to college and how he will look for scholarships.” Tomomi shared with us. “I am so grateful from the bottom of my heart for companies like Markstein Beverage Co. for making scholarships like this possible.”
