Ryan Lee is a fine artist and finance consultant living here in San Elijo Hills.
It’s not often that you meet someone who actively uses both sides of the brain successfully, but Ryan is doing just that. It’s also fun to meet someone who is raising a family while running a business and pursuing his art simultaneously. It goes to show that when you know your priorities and you focus clearly on your goals, there is so much you can accomplish.
Ryan will tell you he is first and foremost a husband and dad. He and his wife are committed to giving their three children (now almost 8, 7, and 3) the best upbringing they can provide.
Ryan was born and raised in San Diego. At a very early age he was introduced to the arts through his father and grandfather who were both architects. He majored in Art with an oil painting emphasis at UC Santa Barbara College of Creative Studies and also obtained a degree in Business Economics.
Ryan started his career in public accounting working with KPMG. He also worked in corporate finance at Apple and Qualcomm. He has always loved solving problems and he developed a passion for applying what he had learned in these larger corporate environments to working with small businesses who really need the services, but can’t justify having someone on staff full-time. Today, as a CPA and finance consultant, Ryan helps small businesses with long-term planning, budgeting, forecasting, accounting and more. He loves helping his clients meet their goals in a streamlined and efficient way.
While pursuing his finance career, Ryan kept studying and practicing his art. He focuses on figurative realist works of art and has had work in galleries in San Francisco as well as commissioned work. After moving to San Elijo Hills about 4 years ago, Ryan was able to give more professional perspective to his art. With the kids a bit older and a designated space in his home to work in, Ryan has been able to expand his work and is excited to share his talents with the community.
One of his favorite projects is family portraits because there is just something special about the energy that comes from a painted portrait versus a photograph. He loves to utilize art to convey a story and to stir a connection between the viewer and the image. Ryan believes that quality materials are key to creating the best result so he utilizes Belgian linen canvas and only the best materials to capture moments in time that can live on well into the future.
If you’d like to do something special like commission a family portrait or a portrait of your child and capture a moment in time that you can cherish forever, contact Ryan about his work. You can view some of his pieces at www.ryanthomasgallery.com.
