A big congratulations to Emily Clifford who recently took the title of Miss Teenage California. Emily who lives here in San Elijo Hills is 14 years old and will be starting her sophomore year at San Marcos High School later this month. Winning the title not only included a $10,000 scholarship, but several other honors.
Emily participated and won the Miss Teen Vista pageant last year. She enjoyed the experience so much that she decided to continue competing at a higher level. As Miss Teen Vista, she was able to complete 300 hours of community service in San Marcos and Vista. She received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award which included a letter for the President of the United States.
The San Marcos City Council recognized Emily for her service in the community and Mayor of San Marcos proclaimed June 14 Emily Clifford Day in the CIty of San Marcos. (How cool is that to have your own day at age 14?)
One of Emily’s favorite charities is the Ronald McDonald House. When her sister was younger, she needed heart surgery and her family was able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. This personal connection makes Emily very passionate and honored to be able serve on this organization’s behalf.
In additional, as part of the Miss Teenage California pageant, she has been working with The Crown Cares Anti-Bullying program. She has been able to go out into the community and speak to groups about the importance of creating a respectful environment in school. Emily recently spoke to her little brother’s 4th grade class at San Elijo Elementary and is also scheduled to speak to a Girl Scout Troop in SEH as well. If you’d like to have Emily come speak to your group, we are happy to connect you with her.
Community service and friendship have been Emily’s most cherished outcomes of the entire experience. And, in July, Emily was able to compete in the U.S.A. National Miss Pageant in Florida.
When she’s not representing her title through community service and other activities, Emily is active at school where she currently is a 4.0 honor student. She loves to cheer and dance and recently made the Varsity Cheerleading team at SMHS. She has played piano for 8 years and flute during middle school. She and her family have lived in SEH for 10 years. They love traveling, sports, theater and their church. You will see them out every Friday night at SMHS cheering on the sports teams during the school year.
Congratulations Emily on your accomplishments! We’re proud of you and can’t wait to see what you accomplish next!
