If you are a parent, you know what it feels like to want what’s best for your kids. You also know how hard it is when you have to make compromises between what you want for them and what you can actually deliver for them.
Mia Medina was faced with that challenge not long ago. Mia has lived in San Elijo HIlls since 2004. Between her and her husband, Nat, they have six kids. Four of the kids live here in San Elijo – one in middle school, one in elementary and then two little ones ages 1 and 2.
Mia grew up in an environment where eating organic, local food was a top priority. Mia’s mom was a chef in Mill Valley and a product of the 60s. As a result, Mia was always drawn to local co-ops and specialty retailers. In fact, she built a 20 year career in the natural products industry working with specialty retailers and Whole Foods Market.
When her son Trey was born, Mia decided to put her career on hold for awhile. Around this same time, her brother passed away and Mia adopted his son. With two little ones only months apart and four older children, Mia knows what it’s like to be a busy mom. As her son started to transition to solid foods, Mia started looking for options. When her older kids were babies she had always made their food, but she was surprised that with all of the natural foods out there these days, she couldn’t find any good fresh baby food options.
With her background in the natural foods industry, she saw there was a big gap in the market for fresh baby food. And, that’s where the idea for Monkiface was born.
Monkiface is a fresh, organic, baby food, handmade in small batches from local produce picked on Southern California farms. The handmade small batches create the freshest alternative to making baby food at home while retaining the nutrients, taste, color and texture lost by all alternatives in the market.
Mia launched the business in November at the Business Expo in the Town Square and it has received an amazing response. It is exactly what busy families are looking for. Just place your order online and it shows up at your doorstep!
To be able to offer fresh, high quality baby food with this kind of convenience, means not having to compromise. It’s also fabulous to be able to offer a variety of different foods during a stage when food preferences are being developed.
The exciting part is that because of her experience in the natural foods industry, Mia is already taking the next steps to bring her brand into more homes. You will see Monkiface on the shelves at Jimbo’s later this month.
Mia is so grateful for the support of our community – which not only launched the brand, but helped her spread the word and utilize her strengths and experience to help others.
If you’re looking for the highest quality fresh organic baby food for your little one and you want to ensure they are exposed to a variety of novel foods from an early stage, give Monkiface a try. With free delivery and a strong commitment to quality, Monkiface is sure to bring a little sunshine to your life.
