If your child is struggling in any way with math, then you are going to be so excited to meet Kevin and Casey Magnuson. They are opening a brand new Mathnasium learning center in San Marcos and it’s a fantastic resource for kids from 2nd grade to 12th grade. You have to go check it out and meet them. You will be so glad you did.
If you’re not already familiar with Mathnasium, it is a math-only learning center where they help kids in grades 2-12 understand math by teaching in a way that makes sense to them. Their goal is to build confidence in math and it is truly transformative for students when they master these skills. It opens so many doors for them not only because of the skills, but also the change that results in their attitude and confidence level which impacts so many other areas of their lives.
All services at Mathnasium start with an individual assessment to identify exactly what each child knows and what they need to learn. Next, Mathnasium designs a customized learning plan for teaching the concepts the student needs to master.
No appointments are necessary. There are always instructors available. You just drop your student off for up to an hour and they check-in and get to work. Students receive individual instruction in a group setting, which is important for helping them build confidence and independence as they learn.
Kevin and Casey met while at school at UCLA. After college, Casey attended SDSU for graduate school and it was during this time that she got a job at a Mathnasium in Rancho San Diego. The owner of the learning center was also a UCLA grad, so they hit it off right away and Casey fell in love with Mathnasium – seeing it as a dream job. It wasn’t long before the owner made her assistant director and then director of his second location. From the start, it has been Casey’s dream to open her own location and this month that dream comes true!
Mathnasium San Marcos is located across the street from Hobby Lobby on the corner of Grand & Creekside Road. It’s an easy drop off location. And, so convenient for parents because you can get your shopping done or grab a bite to eat across the street while your student is learning.
The success stories are so fun to hear. Like when a second grader comes in finger counting and within a couple months has completely broken the habit by learning new tools and strategies. Or when a high school student who is struggling in math gets a plan and after coming in a couple times each week not only gets his very first A on a test, but also is interested in computer science and now feels he can pursue that path because his math skills are no longer a liability, but an asset.
Kevin and Casey are hosting a Grand Opening Open House Party on Saturday, February 3 from 1 to 5PM. It will be a great time to check out the center, meet them and also to meet a lot of the students Casey has worked with over the years. You’ll see why students love both of them so much and how spending a little time at Mathnasium each week just might be the game-changer you’re looking for.
