North County Health Services – Primary Care Partner of the Year 2014

nchsNorth County Health Services (NCHS) was awarded the Primary Care Partner of the Year for 2014 by the American Cancer Society for their support promoting cancer screenings, increasing cancer screening rates and providing the North County community with access to these services.

The American Cancer Society is committed to bridging the gap for under-served and uninsured individuals with the burden of cancer. Community Health Advocates implementing Nationwide Grants for Empowerment and Equity (CHANGE), American Cancer Society’s grant program, was created to award organizations reaching under-served individuals providing them education and services around cancer screenings.

“This award is a meaningful testament to our teams collaborative efforts,” applauds Irma Cota, MPH, President & CEO at North County Health Services. “From a public health perspective, this is a huge honor and it is verification of our dedication to our mission of providing quality and comprehensive healthcare services.”

In 2013, NCHS provided nearly 800 colorectal cancer screenings to patients between 50 and 75 years of age in their Oceanside and Ramona Health Centers’, a colorectal screening rate of 26%. Excited to continue the two­-year project, NCHS is expanding cancer screening offerings to its Grand Avenue and Carlsbad Health Centers’, as well as, increasing colorectal cancer screening services in its Oceanside and Ramona Health Centers’.

Looking forward, NCHS projects to boost colorectal cancer screening rates in their health centers to 36% by 2015, providing over 1,000 patients between 50 and 75 years of age colorectal cancer screenings. By 2016, NCHS hopes to provide nearly 1,700 patients colorectal cancer screenings increasing their colorectal cancer screening rates to 46%.

North County Health Services is a private not­-for­-profit organization that serves over 55,000 patients annually at 10 community health centers in Carlsbad, Encinitas, Oceanside, San Marcos and Ramona, and through two mobile clinics.

NCHS has been providing affordable, quality & comprehensive care to members of our north San Diego County communities who are uninsured or under-insured for over 40 years. Services at NCHS include pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, dental care, radiology, pharmacy and transportation services as well as community health outreach, prevention and disease management programs. They accept private insurances, Medi­ Cal and Medicare. If you are uninsured, you may be eligible for low or no-­cost programs based on your income, qualify for a discount or use their monthly payment plan.
