The San Marcos Rock, Blues and BBQ Festival will return to Walnut Grove Park on Friday, June 5 from 5-9PM and Saturday, June 6 from 12-8PM. Presented by Allen’s Wrench and the City of San Marcos, this festival features music from acoustic guitar to Chicago-style old school blues to rock of the 60s and 70s.
This event has been a fixture in San Marcos for a long time. Twenty-one years ago, Dennis & Lorri Allen started their automotive business, Allen’s Wrench, here in San Marcos. After one year of growing success, they decided to show their appreciation to their customers. So Dennis got his band together and Lorri brought out her BBQ and together they had a day of music and food for their customers.
The day was such a success, that they decided to do this every year. And with each year, the event grew and so did the bands. At one point, they had eleven bands and served up over 500 burgers!
After 15 years of holding their event in the Allen’s Wrench parking lot, the Allens decided to join with the City of San Marcos and let their event grow. This will be the 5th year with the City of San Marcos and the Allens are happy to see their event growing. They are also glad to have the opportunity to share their event with the community.
Get in on the tradition! Whether you attend on Friday evening, Saturday afternoon or both days, you are sure to have a great time relaxing, being outdoors and enjoying some good music.
Bring beach chairs or blankets for lawn seating. The Friends of San Marcos Parks and Recreation will sponsor a beer and wine garden at the event. Local beer from Stone Brewery, Markstein Beverage Co. and more will be available for sale.
