San Elijo Hills Women’s Club – August 2017

Sunset, snacks, and s’mores were on the agenda for San Elijo Hills Women’s Club’s July social, held at Encinitas’ Moonlight Beach. After enjoying delicious food items provided by club members, everyone gathered around the fire roasting marshmallows and chatting with friends old and new as the sun dipped below the horizon. President, Cari Shaffer, held a brief business meeting, sharing some exciting new SEHWC activities. First, for those unable to attend the Tuesday evening meetings, Friday morning coffees will begin in early fall, providing another opportunity to become involved with SEHWC. Secondly, the October evening meeting will offer a presentation by Alabaster Jar Project whose mission is to provide support and empower survivors of human trafficking. Watch for more information on these and other SEHWC activities in the September issue of SHARE.

Potluck Social and Recipe Exchange
August 8

Attendees at the August SEHWC meeting are asked to bring their favorite dish to share, along with the recipe which will be included in a future San Elijo Hills Women’s Club cookbook. Main dishes, appetizers, desserts–anything goes. This is a great opportunity to recreate some of your special memories by sharing Grandma’s Lemon Meringue Pie, Uncle Fred’s Smokin’ Hot Baked Beans, or Mom’s Mystery Muffins among others.

The featured speaker for the evening will be John Bode of the San Diego Food Bank who will explain the mission of the Food Bank, where the food comes from, and how the food is inspected and sorted by volunteers prior to boxing and bagging for distribution to the community. In addition to families and individuals in need, the Food Bank provides food to 350 nonprofits that operate feeding programs.

This promises to be an inspiring and wonderful evening of sharing.

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, beginning at 7PM. We have a great time together as we raise money and volunteer in support of several charities within our community. Please send an email to to receive an emailed invitation with specific information.
