Hundreds of lights festooned colorfully decorated Christmas trees and holiday music added to the festive atmosphere as members and guests were warmly welcomed to the San Elijo Hills Women’s Club’s (SEHWC) holiday party. In addition to enjoying a delicious potluck, socializing with new and long-time friends, and participating in a brief business meeting, attendees embraced the season’s gift-giving spirit, donating over $400 in Target and WalMart gift cards to support Straight from the Heart’s (SFTH) holiday gift program for foster children, as well as numerous canned and boxed goods for Feeding San Diego. President Trish Goldman thanked out-going Board vice president Karen Overton for her many years of service to SEHWC, welcomed new members, and outlined upcoming club activities for 2017. Following a very successful year, the San Elijo Hills Women’s Club enthusiastically looks forward to many opportunities for volunteerism, fundraising, and fun in the year ahead.
San Elijo Hills Holiday Boutique
Partnering with the City of San Marcos for the annual Holiday Boutique on November 19, the San Elijo Hills Women’s Club booth offered home baked goods and popular holiday crafts fashioned by club members for purchase, and provided cups of steaming hot coffee to event vendors. Proceeds from this event are earmarked for SEHWC’s scholarship program which benefits San Marcos High School graduating seniors.
Helping Stock Santa’s Closet
In mid-December SEHWC members slipped into their virtual elf costumes and participated in several days of toy organizing at Straight from the Heart (SFTH). Duties included unloading and sorting toy donations provided by the community, filling stockings, organizing toys in age-appropriate sections in Straight from the Heart’s Santa’s Closet, and wrapping gifts carefully selected by foster parents for their children. This important service which is provided annually by the San Elijo Hills Women’s Club helps make the holidays extra special for SFTH’s foster kids and their families.
Do You Have a Gratitude Bank?
During the November and December meetings, attendees were provided with Gratitude Banks by Women’s Empowerment (WE), one of SEHWC’s charities. Filling your Gratitude Bank is such an inspiring and uplifting idea and a fun activity to do with your family. On days when we feel especially grateful for one or more of the blessings in our lives, we are asked to place $1.00 or more in our Gratitude Bank. In the spring, these banks will be collected and the money donated to Women’s Empowerment whose goal is to eradicate poverty among women and children worldwide by 2030. If you don’t yet have a Gratitude Bank and would like one, please email email@example.com
We Invite You to Join Us!
The San Elijo Hills Women’s Club has an exciting 2017 planned and we hope you will join us as an active member! We are a multi-generational group of women whose mission is to support other women and we accomplish this through fundraising and volunteerism.
SEHWC meets on the second Tuesday of the month. Our White Elephant Auction, to be held January 10 beginning at 7:00 p.m., is always a popular event with all monies raised benefitting the club’s scholarship fund. Simply bring one or more new or like-new items (think re-gifting!) to the meeting, and these will be auctioned off during the evening by our very talented auctioneer in a spirited and good-natured competition.
If you would like to attend this or another upcoming meeting, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org in order to be added to the invitation list.
