Women’s Empowerment Presentation
During the May 9th SEHWC meeting, Rhea Kuhlman, incoming Women’s Empowerment (WE) Board president, shared the experiences of several WE Board members who made a recent site visit to Honduras. The group had the opportunity to meet and interview several Honduran women who had been provided with micro loans from Adelante, a WE partner. These Honduran women–a small store owner, a potter, a convenience store owner, and the operator of a school cafeteria serving students, teachers, and the general public–were prospering as a result of Adelante’s business start-up and improvement loans. Utilizing micro loans to build their businesses has not only improved the lives of these women entrepreneurs and their families, but has had a positive effect on their communities as well.
SEHWC members also brought their Women’s Empowerment Gratitude Banks to the meeting. These banks were filled with monetary donations collected over the past months by club members in gratitude for the special people and moments in their lives. The funds will go toward providing additional micro loans to women such as those highlighted above.
Sip and Swap–June 13
Join SEHWC for the 2nd Annual Sip and Swap on Tuesday, June 13, at 7:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “All Things Beachy,” so gather one to three items that evoke a beach vibe–clothing items you no longer wear, home decor that doesn’t work for you–anything goes. Swap what you don’t use for a treasure brought by another, all while making and enjoying “Shark Attack,” a special drink created special for this event by SEHWC Board member, Nikki Purcell.
For those who may be interested in joining SEHWC, this evening is a great time to meet new friends and get into the spirit of the summer months ahead as well as a wonderful opportunity to learn about SEHWC and the many charities supported by this organization of dedicated women.
If you would like to attend this or an upcoming meeting, please send an email to email@example.com requesting an invitation. You will then receive an evite with specific meeting information.
