September is the last month of the first annual San Marcos Art Council’s Chicken Parade. Held in partnership with the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, the Chicken Parade is bridging connections between local businesses, artists and the thousands of residents along the 78 corridor by coordinating 28 unique sculptures in a parade unlike any other in San Marcos.
The Chicken Parade is a city-wide scavenger hunt and photo contest for artist-adorned chicken sculptures which are housed at businesses throughout the city. Chicken Parade sponsors such as the Computer Factory, Elephant Bar, Sacred Space Imports and the new Great Clips off Rancho Santa Fe are currently roosting the inspirational, artist-adorned chicken sculptures.
SMAC is hosting an assortment of family-friendly prizes for both the Scavenger Hunt and Photo Contests. In conjunction with the sculptures, the San Marcos Arts Council is offering free coloring projects for youth from its website. Coloring projects, social media competitions and public participation in the Chicken Parade are free.
