The San Marcos Community Foundation (SMCF) serves to enrich the quality of life for the community of San Marcos by serving as a nonprofit public benefit corporation providing financial and other assistance programs benefiting the City or its residents.
The Foundation was established by the San Marcos City Council in 1987, creating an Endowment Fund originating from a one million dollar contribution by the builders of the North County Energy and Resource Recovery Center. These funds have been used to make 500+ grants to 125+ non-profit organizations. In its first 25 years, the Foundation has granted $1M – all for the benefit of San Marcos.
With all of the recent growth here in San Marcos, the San Marcos Community Foundation is positioning itself to meet the growing demands of our community. They recently launched the San Marcos – Now and Forever Campaign which provides individuals and organizations with a unique opportunity to leave a legacy in San Marcos by contributing funds to both increase current grant-making, as well as contributing funds to help grow the endowment that makes all of the Foundation’s work possible.
