The San Marcos Educational Foundation (SMEF) is pleased to announce the results of our 2014-2015 Curriculum Enrichment Grants to SMUSD faculty. SMEF funded 34 grants. Seventeen district schools will be receiving awards totaling $23,094. In the Foundation’s 30+ year history, we have distributed close to $500,000 to schools within the district.
SMEF was formed in 1983 by a core of San Marcos parents, teachers, and community leaders to provide grants to teachers. The goal of the foundation is to provide direct financial support to teachers for the procurement of enhanced curriculum for needed classroom projects. The grants are typically used to close the gap between state funds and additional needs required to continue or improve curriculum in the schools.
The foundation’s mission is to enhance and enrich the classroom programs of SMUSD while working within the established curriculum. SMEF supports programs in levels K-12 which fall within the adopted state curriculum guidelines. Annual funding is available for items and programs not normally funded by the district.
SMEF is a nonprofit, tax exempt, corporation operating independently of the district with its own board of directors. The foundation’s funds are generated through tax deductible contributions from businesses, individuals, foundations, payroll deductions, and annual fundraisers. Over 98% of donated funds go directly to support the classrooms and libraries in the SMUSD.
