September 1, 2016 By Karen Friend Smith Leave a Comment

Hoedown in the Hills–October 22, 2016

Grab your “pardner,” a pal or two, put on your cowboy duds, and join in the fun. San Elijo Hills Women’s Club’s Hoedown in the Hills promises to be an exciting evening of mouth-watering barbeque, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages, toe-tapping music, line dancing, an energetic live auction, and the opportunity to bid on amazing silent auction items throughout the evening, all for only $45 per person. So step right up, purchase your tickets without delay at sehwc.weebly.com, and mark your calendars for Saturday, October 22, 6-10PM at the Williams Barn in Walnut Grove Park, 1950 Sycamore Drive, San Marcos. All proceeds from this event will benefit Straight from the Heart, a local support and outreach organization serving 5000 North County foster children and their families.

Don’t be left in the dust! There’ll be a good time in the old barn this night!

Request for Auction Items

Would you like to get involved in SEHWC’s fall fundraising efforts through a donation of one or more items for the silent and live auctions to be held during the Hoedown in the Hills event? By reaching out to family, friends and local merchants for donations such as dinners at local restaurants, tickets to local attractions, golf games or lessons, weekend getaways, and other products and services, you, too, are helping raise funds for Straight From The Heart. Alternately, you may want to join with a friend in putting together a creative themed basket for the auctions. Please contact sehwc.ca@gmail.com if you would like to participate and/or need additional information.

Casa de Amparo

The SEHWC’s August speaker was Celeste Leechliter from Casa de Amparo. Founded in 1978 to support children and families who are affected by child abuse or are at risk of child abuse and neglect, Casa de Amparo’s goal is to provide a range of programs and services that assist children and families in the healing process, as well as to end any mistreatment of children; thereby ending generational cycles of abuse. It is a wonderful local organization and SEHWC will be participating in a needs drive for Casa de Amparo’s young adult program as well as offering to help with group projects. There are many opportunities for volunteerism with this amazing organization, so give them a call if you are interested. It’s a wonderful place to make a difference! (760) 754-5500.

Join us! – September 13 Meeting

SEHWC members and their guests are fortunate to have two informative speakers at our next meeting. Nicole Purcell, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in UCSD’s Department of Pharmacology, and SEHWC member, will lead a lively and interactive discussion on how food affects women’s health, helping us separate fact from fiction.

Where do you find help when you or someone you know needs assistance? Claire Osakan, Director of Enrollment Services for 2-1-1, will share information on this confidential, free, 24/7 resource for locating critical human services within the community.

If you would like to attend this meeting or any club event, please send an email to sehwc.ca@gmail.com to be added to the invitation list and to receive additional information in regard to the location of the meeting. Check out the SEHWC website at sehwc.weebly.com
