Sunset Yoga for a Cure

On Sunday, March 13, resident, Melinda Staab and her family hosted Sunset Yoga for a Cure in a cul-de-sac overlooking the ocean here in SEH. The event raised over $600 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). It was a beautiful example of what happens when you bring a cause close to your heart out into the greater community to spread awareness and simultaneously have a tangible impact on its behalf.

Each year, the Staab family does something to benefit LLS as a tribute to Bernie Staab who they lost in 2013 to Mantle Cell Lymphoma. Neighbors gathered in the cul-de-sac that afternoon and participated in a yoga pose challenge and class led by Aminy Johnson of SoulShine Yoga.

Everyone had an opportunity to share their connections to LLS and to support the LLS Team in Training program in their efforts to raise $100K this season to fund a research portfolio which will be in honor of San Elijo’s own 13 year old, Ben Krueger, who has been in treatment the last several years and will be concluding his treatment this fall. Ben was on-hand at the event and participated in what was his first yoga class. He shared words of encouragement for everyone about facing challenges with determination and positivity.

It was truly a special event, which will likely become an annual tradition. If you missed it, make sure you join us next year! If you’d like to donate, please visit www.sharesanmarcos.com/teamintraining for a link to the Team’s fundraising page.
