If you have never experienced a professional stretch session, you don’t know what you are missing. And, we are so lucky to have this service available to us right here in San Marcos.
Stretch U opened on Melrose Dr. a little over a year ago and has quickly become a favorite stop for athletes and non-athletes alike. In fact, local area businesses are working with Stretch U to develop stretch programs for their employees after seeing the benefits of stretching on general health and productivity.
We all know how good it feels to stretch ourselves, but it’s something most of us just don’t do frequently enough. Stretching is also an important part of performance and recovery in sports of all kinds from running to golf.
When I decided this year to train for and run the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon, I immediately thought of Stretch U. Since I had never run more than 2 or 3 miles, I knew the training would be brutal on my joints and muscles. Rather than suffer, I decided to take action to speed up recovery time and keep me on track. Stretch U set me up on a program where I stopped in to be stretched twice a week throughout my training season. I can’t tell you how beneficial this was to my training, my recovery, and my success in completing the marathon without injury.
Whether you are an athlete who wants to recover and perform better, or just someone who wants to improve their mobility and overall health, Stretch U is a great resource. The process they use is something everyone can benefit from – especially since we all spend so much time in our day sitting down and sedentary. The benefits of a stretch session are immediate, but regular treatments like the ones I incorporated into my training program, provide even bigger benefits – better performance, circulation, mental alertness and stress relief.
“The greatest benefit from stretching isn’t the increased flexibility it is the increase in circulation,” according to Joe Horton, owner of Stretch U. “The increase in circulation benefits the body in so many ways from keeping fingers and toes warm to healing an injury. Since we engage in so many day-to-day activities that prevent proper blood flow like sitting in a car or at our desks, we need that blood to flow so we don’t end up with aches and pains in our bodies.”
Whether you’re taking up a new sport, spending way too much time sitting down, or you just feel pain somewhere in your body and know that if you could just get the blood flowing properly, you’d feel some relief…that’s what Stretch U is all about. You will increase your flexibility and mobility while learning a lot about your body and how to get it functioning better for you so you can do more of what you love with less discomfort.
